The Tweed, a place that we usually associate with the beach and world-class surf breaks, however, beyond the beaches of the Tweed Coast, you will find a rich array of charming villages, country towns and breathtaking scenery.

Visit the hinterlands and explore the Tweed’s sweet valley towns, from Murwillumbah to Tyalgum, Uki to Burringbar and everywhere else in between, and you’ll find a vibrant ambience that is instantly energising. It’s in the fresh air, the contrast of high peaks and stretching plains and the fresh green vistas at every turn in the road.

Blessed with globally recognised galleries, World Heritage-listed rainforest and some of the state’s most forward-thinking restaurants, bars and distilleries.

Browse through the extensive collection of treasures for sale at Heaths Old Wares, Collectables & Industrial Antiques in Burringbar. Known for their antiques, industrial antiques, tools, collectables and unusual treasures, owners, Eva and Ross Heath, have been buying and selling antiques since 1990 – owning stores in Ballina for thirteen years, Bangalow for eight years and now in Burringbar for the past three.

Take a break from browsing the aisle of collectables and stop by the Post Shop Café for a coffee or a freshly made smoothie and juice, why not try one of the delicious items from their menu; made from local produce and with vegetarian, vegan, dairy and gluten-free options available.

Located in the regional centre of Murwillumbah, The Regent Cinema. Recently refurbished to its authentic Art Deco glory, this majestic building is an architectural destination unto itself. Built in 1947, The Regent has been at the heart of culture in Murwillumbah for over 70 years and is a state-of-the-art venue for the Arts including film (blockbuster, arthouse and cult), workshops, music, theatre and visual art. The Regent also has a vibrant world-food cafe on site, a licensed bar, and an outdoor covered balcony with a view for dining guests, which is also suitable for smaller gigs or conferences.

Nestled in the foothills of Mount Warning, the world’s largest extinct shield volcano, just 15 minutes from Murwillumbah, is the small, pretty country town of Tyalgum. Visit the arts and crafts shops for local handicrafts and homewares or enjoy fresh delicious treats and coffee at Flutterbies Cottage Cafe, found in the Old Bakery building. Discover the delight of French linen, flowers and vintage crockery in the elegant Tea Room or relax in the garden for lunch, browse the beautiful gift shops or sample single origin third wave coffee at Double or Nothing Coffee Alchymists.

You can’t visit the Tweed Valley, without stopping by for a visit at the Chillingham Store. Known for their beautiful coffee, cakes, burgers, pizzas, sandwiches and live music every Saturday! Just 13 minutes from Tyalgum, this family-run heritage-listed general store, bottle shop, café, post office and fuel pump are celebrating its 100th birthday! From Friday 30th September to Sunday 2nd October, to mark the occasion, owner Gary and his team have organised a jam-packed 3 days of activities, food and live music!

There is so much to discover in the Tweed Valley, so why not visit on your next Weekend Getaway?
