Tina’s Travels – Ladies Long Weekend

Over the weekend of the 17th – 21st March the Ladies Long Weekend group travelled to Hobart for the 5th official departure and what a time was had by all. This time I had 24 wonderful women join me with over half who have joined me on previous departures.

We arrived mid afternoon and our first stop was the gorgeous and aptly named Puddleduck Winery. Sitting on a man-made dam, the winery is surrounded by vineyards and of course – ducks! It’s very peaceful sitting and enjoying the wines with the sounds of the ducks all around you and believe me – they are certainly part of the family there. The cellar door is famous for their reverse BYO you bring the picnic food and they supply the beverages. Our ladies enjoyed a tasting of 5 of their wines along with a delicious Tasmanian tasting platter.

For our stay we were based at the first Mövenpick in Australia. Centrally located, we were a very short and easy walk to the Hobart Waterfront and Salamanca where the majority of Hobart’s nightlife and entertainment can be found. On arrival we were greeted with sparkling wine and of the hotel’s delectable
chocolates from their daily ‘chocolate hour’.

Switzerland being famous for its chocolate, Mövenpick dedicates one hour in the afternoon to an exquisite tasting experience with Mövenpick chocolate variations and homemade creations such as éclairs, brownies, truffles, chocolate fountains and is available in all Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts worldwide.

For our welcome dinner we walked the short distance down to the Hunter Street precinct for our dinner in one of Hobart’s iconic restaurants – Peacock and Jones. Located within the oldest waterfront warehouses, the restaurant has an intimate and ‘luxury warehouse’ décor.

Here we enjoyed a 5-course dinner with matching wines – it was incredible! It was safe to say we all had our fill and were ready for bed.

Friday saw us join Pennicott Wilderness Journeys and travel to Bruny Island to taste and experience the best of the island. Our guide Luke had been with the company for 7 years and he was very passionate about the company, their tours and Bruny Island itself.

It was a magical day with tastings of Honey, Chocolate, Beer, Cheese, Oysters and an incredible fish and chip lunch with an incredible view. We also visited landmarks on Bruny Island like Bligh Museum, Truganini Lookout, Two Tree Point & Resolution Creek and we managed to spot two of the island’s rare and unique White Wallabies.

After such a big day, it was a night at leisure. Many had a light dinner and went to bed early.

Saturday morning was spent shopping and enjoying the Salamanca Markets at our own pace. What a treat! With over 230 stallholders consisting of artisans, designers and producers – it’s as Tasmanian as you can get. At midday, 22 of the ladies met and we travelled over to MONA Museum via the MONA Ferry. This is a fabulous experience and for a little bit more you can travel in style in the ‘Posh Pit’ and enjoy drinks and a small sample of delicious food. The ladies were all left a little shocked as MONA is not for the faint of heart, but it is well worth the visit. With their onsite cellar door and restaurant, a stage and big grassy area it’s a wonderful afternoon out.

Sunday, our final day in Hobart and of course we ended in style and the incredibly beautiful Frogmore Creek Winery. With a 3-course lunch and a wine tasting set amongst the vines in an exquisite building the ladies laughed and celebrated a wonderful weekend together.
