Queensland’s New CHO Steps Down Before Changeover

Dr Krispin Hajkowitcz has decided to no longer take up the position of Queensland’s Chief Health Officer only a few days before he was meant to take over.

This leaves Queensland without a replacement – with the current CHO, Dr Jeannette Young set to leave in a matter of days.

Dr Hajkowicz, 45, has stated he is stepping down for personal reasons. This interrupts the health authorities’ plans for a smooth take-over, when Dr Young, 58, moves on to become Queensland’s next Governor on Monday.

In the mean-time, Peter Aitken, Deputy CHO, will take over in a temporary position until the new CHO can be chosen.

With the delicate state we are about to enter as we transition away from COVID restrictions, hopefully this uncertainty about the Chief Health Officer will end quickly.
