Mayoral New Year’s Message

There is no doubt the past two years have been quite challenging for most of us and we’re looking forward to new opportunities in 2022.

I hope that everyone has had the chance to spend some time recharging their batteries with those people who mean the most to them – I know I have.

As the City of Logan swings back into action, we’ll see some exciting things come to fruition in 2022.

In 2021 Council endorsed a new vision to become ‘a green city full of pride opportunity and culture.’

I’m proud to say we are putting words into action with the opening of the redeveloped and much anticipated Kingston Butter Factory precinct in early 2022.

On 29 January 2022 Council is hosting a launch party to mark the arrival of Logan’s first ever cultural precinct. Join us at 6.30pm for a host of local legends, culture, and spectacle, with the Logan community at the heart of it all. This is a free event offering a mix of cultural and contemporary music, dance, visual and spoken word performances.

We’ll continue our commitment to delivering vital community infrastructure including the refurbishment of the Logan North Aquatic Centre and we will commence construction on two master-planned sport and recreation parks.

Rosia Park, Park Ridge covers 68 hectares of land and will include the first criterium
track in the city and the first banked track of its kind in Australia. There’s also a nature play area, barbeques, picnic areas and walking and mountain bike trails. Waterford West District Park, Waterford will commence construction in the later in the year and will include water play and adventure play areas, a wetland and amenities.

Both are designed to meet the future sport and recreation needs of some of our most rapidly growing communities.

These parks will join Council’s 958-stong park network, improving and delivering
family-fun spaces that make a positive difference to our lifestyles and our city.

Our city is the best place in the world to raise a family, with great lifestyles and affordable housing and it is undeniable that people love living in the City of Logan.

As a city we’ve set ourselves some big goals for the next 12 months. With my fellow
Councillors, I’m ready to see what 2022 brings.
