Canterbury College Introduces New Facilities

Canterbury College in Waterford has recently opened a state of the art aquatic and tennis centre, featuring the exciting Tiny Taipans learn to swim school and Taipans club swimming and tennis. The facility offers easy parking and very bright and modern facilities, including a 10 lane 50m pool and a learn to swim pool, both heated for year-round swimmer comfort as well as 8 international standard tennis courts.

“This is a much-anticipated exciting addition to our already impressive Sports Precinct facilities.” Principal Mr Daniel Walker said, “a facility to inspire and motivate our students to rise to greater heights in swimming and tennis.”

Facilities are one thing; great outcomes are however driven by people, not buildings.
Canterbury is blessed to have a team of exceptional operational and sporting minds assembled to help turn great facilities into great programs for both Canterbury students and the wider community.

The swim school is run by a team of quality instructors, led by one of Australia’s best swimming coaches, Mr Daniel Blackborrow. Daniel has a wealth of swim experience, in large learn to swim schools in Brisbane and Melbourne and in overseeing not only state and nationally ranked swimmers but also beginner and development squads. He has developed elite swimming programs for local, state and national squads, gaining medal success at national and international level. Daniel is himself an accomplished athlete, still holding top-10 rank Junior times in his favourite stroke, backstroke.

The Tiny Taipans learn to swim programs include classes for babies, preschool and school aged children. Taipans Club swimming offers stroke development, squad and high performance swimming for more experienced swimmers.

Alongside swimming, the facility also offers student and adult tennis lessons and club tennis, run by another very experienced sports professional who is well known around Brisbane, Mr James Rapkins.

“No doubt it is a facility that Logan has been crying out for, and as the leading school in Logan, we are pleased to be serving our community,” Mr Walker said.

Opening soon will be an extension to the amenities and Club offices, providing additional kiosk and service counter spaces and increasing the change and toilet facilities by 400%.

This may well be one of the best aquatic and tennis facilities of its type in a Queensland school.”

“The opportunities for our students and our community at large are endless. We hope that through us Logan is able to produce a new generation of tennis and swimming champions, due to their early exposure with fantastic facilities and coaches at our school. In 10 years, it would be a thrill to know that this facility and our club have been a breeding ground for the best in Queensland.”
