The Logan Art Gallery; Open from 10.00AM to 5.00PM, Tuesday to Saturday

The Logan Art Gallery is a unique and valuable part of the local community. It has been celebrating all kinds of art since it opened in 1995, combining a range of diverse exhibitions that are sourced from local, interstate and touring/visiting artists. This variety- built upon a permanent collection combined with fresh, new, ever revolving installations, create a dynamic and stimulating experience for visitors and locals alike. They also offer free public programs and include a dedicated Young People’s Gallery showcasing art by and for young people in a fun, interactive manner.

The Gallery’s free programs and activities include guided tours, artists and curators talks, educational workshops and other special events. Entry to the gallery, and access to all these programs (and more) is free- so the gallery is accessible to anyone. An example of a great program they run is the Art + Dementia program, which is a discussion-based tour of artworks to intellectually and socially stimulate people with dementia and their companions. In this program, participants are encouraged to express emotion, engage and contribute to interpretation and recall memories.

Current exhibitions at the gallery include ‘Purple Rain’, by Claudia Husband, ‘Stopping Time’, in collaboration between Griffith university, and Newcastle Art Gallery, ‘Ripple effect: out of artwaves’ by Dante Coetzee plus other exciting installations. Upcoming exhibitions include ‘Gathering Gold’ by Richard Blundell, and ‘Eleni – Navigators of Polynesia’ by Faraimo Paulo.

All this and more make it clear why the Logan Art Gallery is not only worth a visit from anyone, but also very valuable to its local community.
