Life at Elements Retirement Village

As the official countdown to Christmas begins, we reflect on a year many are happy to farewell. COVID-19 changed our lives in ways we could have never imagined as the virus swept around the globe. For those who lost loved ones, the pain was made more unbearable when they were unable to share their grief in the arms of families and friends due to separation and restrictions.

Residents at Elements also had to adjust to this new way of life but were lucky as the community came together to work out a way to co-exist safely with the virus. Single residents very quickly buddied up for daily walks and mutual support. With the introduction of iPads throughout the village more than three years ago, our residents adapted to Zoom and Facetime meetings overnight. Schedules for shopping trips were adjusted to accommodate changes in centre opening hours and social distancing. An industry COVID safe plan was implemented in our 1,000 sqm community hall so that social activities were able to re-commence as soon as restrictions eased.

With life finally getting a little bit closer to what we once knew, it feels like we can now look forward to the upcoming festive season. Christmas is celebrated in many ways for our 174 residents but all share in wishing each other health and happiness, and show gratitude for living in our wonderful community.

If there is one thing that COVID has taught us, it is that community, health, family, and friends are life’s essential elements.
