Jen Williams from the Magpie Place shares her story and how she has developed a place for locals to migrate, meet and mingle while experiencing the Aboriginal culture.

By Jen Williams, Magpie Place

My journey started many moons ago! When I was a very young girl in county Victoria, Ballarat, I had a sense of injustice and wanted to see justice for all.

I felt a natural love for Aboriginal people as my best friend was of Aboriginal descent. He was so sweet; however, he used to get bullied on a daily basis. Many years later, I felt a massive urge to create a safe space for all people to meet, mingle and migrate!

I have been very fortunate and blessed to be working and volunteering in the Logan Aboriginal community. Due to these many years and connections and relationships, I developed a space that could support the local Aboriginal people by displaying and selling genuine Aboriginal Artwork at an affordable price.

I had hoped, believed and dreamed that maybe our community would support us. They can do this by coming to buy coffee and maybe engage with a piece of art or even one of the many talented Aboriginal Artists and maybe even want to know more and feel a sense of Belonging at Magpie Place Coffee and Art Space. We are located at 8 Cinderella Drive, Springwood and are nestled at the bottom of the Invest Logan building.

Magpie Place serves Coffee Mentality coffee, which has its own story. It is roasted locally and is a unique boutique blend, that makes a great cup of coffee. Additionally, we stock Real Chai (unique organic chai), naked syrups and choc powder (both Gluten Free and vegan-friendly) and offer a small select range of cakes and cookies from local Roberto’s Cheesecake shop.

There is a quick takeaway window for those on the go as well as a dine-in option in our relaxed and unique space.

Why not try one of our speciality drinks, Jen’s Peppermint Mocha. Not just refreshing, it is also uplifting and good for your mental health. Also, for those looking for a natural solution to an ailment, the café has doTerra oils to try and buy.

It has been my absolute pleasure to develop Magpie Place into an emerging community space where all people are welcome. Opening in the midst of the Pandemic has highlighted how important it is to be able to connect and meet friends and neighbours and lovingly celebrate each day!

My desire to grow the community space comes from the need for people to feel comfortable and free to stay and play. So, come along and meet me at Magpie Place to mingle with people and become part of our local community.
