Canterbury Wins Educational EnviroGrant

Canterbury College was honoured to have been awarded an Educational EnviroGrant from Logan City Council at the recent Logan Eco Action Festival (LEAF).

This grant will allow us to grow our school’s Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden by adding elements such as a Bush Tucker Garden and fruit trees.

We cannot wait to educate our younger students and the wider community about pleasurable and sustainable food education through this kitchen garden.

Already our Year 3 and 4 students have been the very fortunate recipients of an abundance of new gardening tools – including rakes, trowels, shovels, forks, and even some sugar cane mulch – from Bunnings Loganholme with huge thanks for their generous donation.

Part of this outdoor education has included a presentation from Sarah Hamilton who is a Meliponist, aka a Stingless Native Bee Keeper & Educator from Bee Yourself.

Her primary focus is on raising beekeeping awareness and education, while supplying low maintenance hobby hives and accessories for new native bee custodians.

It’s all part of Canterbury’s ‘World Ready’ mantra from ELC – Year 12.
