Astudy is underway to investigate the viability of establishing a walking and cycling trail along a disused section of the Bethania to Beaudesert rail corridor.

Logan City Council has appointed independent consultants to investigate the feasibility of activating a 10.5km section of the trail from Bethania Station to Logan Village.

Logan City Councillor Laurie Koranski said, Council successfully applied for 100% State Government Funding from the Rail Trail Local Government Grants program, to investigate if the Bethania to Logan Village section of the trail is viable as a recreational trail.

“There is a huge amount of community interest for walking and cycling trails in Logan” Cr Laurie Koranski said.

“It is important however that we carefully consider the potential risks and rewards before we commit to building the trail”.

“We expect the final report will consider issues like flooding, potential impacts on conservation areas, the condition of the existing timber bridges, safety of road crossings, construction cost and ongoing maintenance cost of the project” she said.

The independent consultant’s feasibility study is expected to be submitted to Logan City Council’s City Infrastructure Committee meeting later this year.

Logan City Council has not committed funding towards the construction of the rail trail and detailed design has not been undertaken.
